Name: Janus Age: 11 Family: Father (missing), mother (deceased), older sister (Cera), adopted family (Geran, Merin, etc) Distinguishing characteristics: Blue hair, secret ability to use magic Description: Janus is quiet and introspective, and keeps to himself often. Most everyone around him considers him to be shy. In truth, he's not, but his withdrawl is due to a secret he hides. Orphaned as an infant, Janus and his older sister were adopted by Geran, who raised them as his own. Janus is sometimes picked on for his striking blue hair and his inability to use magic, especially by Torin, but he takes it in stride. He has been known to get revenge in very subtle ways. However, Janus favours the way of peace, preferring to perch dangerously close to the edge of Tasia and look down on the world below than to roughouse with the bigger boys. His favorite place is a small copse in the woods, near the bridge, where he can sit amongst the trees and the river and simply be. Name: Cera Age: 16 Family: Father (missing), mother (deceased), younger brother (Janus), adoptive family (Geran, Merin, etc) Distinguishing characteristics: Quiet, reserved, gentle (usually) Description: Cera is Janus' older sister. Cera was seven when she and Janus were adopted into Geran's family, and is much more aware of the fact that she and Janus are adopted. She loves her adoptive family, but sometimes she can't help but feel like an outsider. She gets along well with everyone, but she's beginning to question who she is, and her role in the world. Name: Geran Age: 43 Family: Mother, wife (Merin), three children, two adopted children (Janus and Cera) Distinguishing characteristics: In good shape for being 43 and having five kids, deep reserves of patience Description: Geran is a stocky man, with a very big laugh and a bigger heart. He dearly loves his family, and spends all his free time with them, which may or may not be a good thing, depending on which of his offspring you ask. He is careful to ensure that his adopted children receive the same care and attention his biological children do, and is protective of Janus against those who see him as different. Name: Merin Age: 47 Family: Mother in law, husband (Geran), three children, two adopted children (Janus and Cera) Distinguishing characteristics: Very patient, wields a wooden club when angered Description: Merin is the perfect woman. At least, if you ask for Geran's opinion. Merin was once one of the doctors of Tasia, but she has long since retired to care for her children. She is very kind and nuturing, but she also encourages her children to be self-sufficient. Name: Elix Age: 7 Family: Mother (Merin), father (Geran), grandmother, four older siblings Distinguishing characteristics: Youngest child in Geran's family, wears a small purple crystal around her neck Description: Elix is the youngest child of Geran and Merin. She's just beginning to learn how to draw and shape the energies of magic. Nobody has told her, but her special treasure (the purple crystal around her neck) is actually pure estralite. Of her siblings, Janus is her favorite, because she somehow always can find him when she wants to play, and he'll spend time with her. Elix does not know Janus was adopted into her family, as this was before she was born. Name: Oren Age: 18 Family: Mother (Merin), father (Geran), grandmother, four younger siblings Distinguishing characteristics: Headstrong, stubborn as a dead rhino Description: Oren is the eldest of Geran and Merin's kids. Being that he's the oldest, he's used to having responsibility and seniority, and this has bred stubbornness in him, from arguments with his siblings (and rightfully so - he usually is right). Oren and Cera sometimes don't see eye-to-eye, especially concerning Janus. As the oldest in the family, Oren thinks it's his responsibility to help Janus grow. Sela thinks otherwise; Janus is her brother. Name: Torin Age: 13 Family: Mother, father, younger brother Distinguishing characteristics: Immature, spoiled, brave (yes, I said brave - just wait) Description: Torin is a brat. He plays mischevious pranks on people, but these are cheap jokes, not clever tricks. He teases Janus a lot, and it infuriates him when Janus ignores him or manages to cleverly duck out of the situation. Recently Torin has turned to violence to get a reaction out of Janus, but he doesn't want to really hurt the boy. He just wants to get a rise out of him. Name: Cade Age: At least 50 Family: None surviving Distinguishing characteristics: Sagely, wise, thinks a lot Description: Cade is Tasia's oldest and most respected sage. When not busy with his duties, he supervises classes at the school in Tasia. He takes much delight in helping with the classes based on controlling magic, though more than once he's had his eyebrows singed off as a result of a student not doing his or her homework. Cade is kind, and is always willing to give time to someone willing to learn. |
