Hayama Akito is one of the main characters in the anime Kodomo no Omocha. He's the leader of a gang of boys in Kurata Sana's Grade 6 class. He himself actually does very little to cause trouble, but his monkey boys cause havoc in the classroom.
We soon discover that Akito's home life isn't good. His mother is gone, his sister hates him, and his father works late. Sana attempts to help him, and after several false tries (and some hurt feelings along the way), she succeeds, and it all turns out for the good. Over time, crises come up in Akito's life, and he finds Sana at his side at every turn (for the record he doesn't always ASK for her help). When Sana has problems, Akito finds himself trying to help her, as she has him. Out of this, a strong friendship forms, withstanding the test of time, distance, and a certain child-star who plays the trumpet when upset.
Gimme The Stats!
These are as best as I can determine from the TV series and manga. If anyone has a source that points 'em all out, please let me know.
Name: Hayama Akito Birthdate: October 12th, 1984 (I THINK) Blood type: I don't know. Favorite subjects: Duno, he always seems to be reading manga. Least favorite subjects: Who knows, he always seems to be reading manga. Favorite food: Sushi (he doesn't hate it) Family members: Fuyuki (father), Koharu (mother, deceased), Natsumi (sister) Favorite colour: I don't know. Hard to tell. Interests: Karate, dinosaurs. Friends: Sana, Tsuyoshi (up until episode 28, at least.) What he says in the ep.21 rap: "Should that be, 'Sana's annoying'?" Peculiarities of note: Measures things in terms of lack of dislike, never talks in polite form to anyone, even adults, unless he respects them, very much against deceiving children, propensity to turn into different animals. Animals he turns into: Leopard, Boss Monkey, the cobra fighting the mongoose (Sana), a Lone
Wolf, a Lone Pig, this week's Tanuki, a bat, a mouse, a devil, Palm of my Hand Hayama (a small bird), Abominable Snowman Hayama, and the cowardly lion from The Wizard of Oz.
What's So Great About Akito?
This is a tough one. Akito isn't very likeable to begin with, but we slowly see that he has another side to him; he's not all bad. And this other side of him is very sweet. I guess that I identify a lot with Akito; he had a rough childhood, and that's shaped who he is now. After Sana straightens him out (with heavy machinery, practically), he gets better, and honestly feels bad about the things he was responsible before then. And that's part of why I like him. Underneath this cold exterior, a gentle boy is hiding, and it's when we see that boy that I like Akito the most. Akito's relationship with Sana is also touching, and cute. For more on this, read the essay I wrote.
